Rolife USB-C Conversion
āEverythingās Computer!ā Iām sure youāve read my last post about lighting automation⦠Since the Rolife-Kits only come with battery powered lights, i had to do some customizations. First i cut hole on the backside to fit a USB-C Port. Next in line is a small buck converter, stepping down the USB 5V to roughly 2.7V. To preserve the cordless functionalities, a 6pin 2way switch was wired in. With that in place i can switch the incoming power supply. ...
Automated Lights
Turning on tiny lights by tiny computers O: With great model-builds and lighting comes great responsibilities. Or something like that, iām not a spider myself⦠I didnāt want to plug in and turn on my model kits everyday to admire their cute lights, so i automated it. Using a Raspberry Pi Zero, 4xRelay-Board and USB-Ports, i can control four USB Power Connections with one single power-input. ...
Cobi: Å koda Octavia RS
First time with non-Lego bricks. I was really looking forward to the opening of the first Bluebrixx-Store in Austria! So of course i had to run and buy something from them⦠I landed on the Škoda Octavia RS and was not at all disappointed. The level of detail is exorbitant, the quality of the prints are just simply amazing. No Stickers to be applied! The only downside of the Cobi brand i have noticed, is the difficulty in distinguishing the very slight different parts. There are many more types of sloped pieces for example, that are hard to keep track of and i got wrong a couple of times. ...
Arcade Machine
The first installment of finished carnival games. Key Facts: Kick Off: 05.07.2017 Finish: 03.09.2017 approx. Cost: ~350⬠During my time at HTL Krems i apparently didnāt have enough to do already, so i set out a new goal for myself. I wanted to recreate one of the classic Arcade Machines of the 80s/90s era. Research has begun and thus i landed on the MAME Project. A Multiple Machine Emulator, which would be able to run various types of ROMs which i obviously bought from someone wearing a long black-leathered coat in a dark allyway. As i recently had to purchase a new Laptop for school, i had an unused and really shitty Laptop laying around (yes, it was a Medionā¦). That became the backbone of this Project. ...
Getting back into model building with Rolife
Paper, MDF, LEDs and Cuteness~ A long time ago i used to build a lot of Revell Models. A couple of years ago i built some self-3d-printed Models - look here (Until there is no link just look into the sun in the meantime). Lego building was a big part of childhood, my brother gifted me LEGO cars for my birthdays - so thatās no longer just a childhood thing. A few weeks ago (as of time of writing) i visited the Model Making Expo (Link to modellbautage) with a friend of mine. Tiny miniatures besides model trains, RC Planes of every size imaginable, RC-Boats and Submarines, every machine you could imagine on a worksite in RC edition working on a mini-jobsite, and everything else imaginable. That event got me hooked again and i bought a Rolife Booknook set. ...
Cutting Board Holder
A QOL-improvement to assist in camping cooking. Key Facts: Kick Off: 26.01.2025 Finish: 23.04.2025 approx. Cost: 50⬠Printables Files Two friends of mine came to me with a very specific problem they came across while being out on a camping trip. They tried to secure their cutting Board perpendicular to the stove-lid, to act as a windbreak while cooking. Attempts were made using an assortment of different tools, none of which could provide the needed holding strength for day-to-day usage. ...
Gridfinity
My first dive into the world of gridfinity. The combination of having a workshop and also hoarding screws creates a great need for organization. There comes a time, when you canāt resist the temptation of starting your own gridfinity implementation any longer. I created my STL Files in Freecad, using the Gridfinity Workbench. Unfortunately, the needed Freecad Version 1.0 is only available as .AppImage as the time of writing. ...
Headphone Stand
A (debatably) beautiful headphone stand. Key Facts: Kick Off: 26.03.2025 Finish: 04.04.2025 approx. Cost: 90-100⬠Printables Files A friend of mine sent me a picture of a headphone stand he had laid his eyes on for the past couple of weeks and asked me if we could (kind of) recreate it for cheaper. So i tried. A first recreation was quickly drawn up in a CAD-model, before realizing there will be some modifications needed for structural integrity. ...
A stupidly simple Finance helper
Like most people who tend to DIY many parts of their lifes, i too pledge guilty of the program-your-own-tools sin. For a long time i used to track my monthly finances in an ever growing excel sheet. Building functions which became more and more difficult over time. I knew i had to switch to an alternative sometime in the future and finally made the decision to program that solution myself. ...
Music Box/Carousel
A wedding gift for two very close friends. ā¤ļø Key Facts: Kick Off: 01.03.2024 Finish: 02.06.2024 approx. Cost: undisclosed This project involved two major parts i had to develop. A music player and a motor-driven carousel. At first i tried to let one arduino control both the music and the motor. Since i had gathered lots of experience controlling various stepper/dc motors in the past, i knew the bigger struggle would be the audio-part. Many iterations of buying -> testing -> failing lead me down different paths of exploring sd-card modules, active amplifiers and speaker combinations and various arduino boards. In the end i concluded it would be simpler to acquire a used mp3-player & mini-speaker, dissasemble them both and reincorporate their components into the project. ...
